The U.S. Commerce Department has issued a surprise export control directive ordering Anthropic to block all foreign nationals from accessing its newly launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models due to national security concerns. Because Anthropic is unable to reliably screen users' nationalities in real-time, the company was forced to shut down access to both models entirely worldwide.
