The World Health Organization has declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern. A rare strain of the virus, for which there is no approved vaccine or treatment, may be spreading more widely than detected.

The agency added that the outbreak, with around 246 cases and 80 deaths, does not meet the criteria of pandemic emergency.
