Media freedom concerns persist across the European Union
The Liberties Media Freedom Report 2026 highlights ongoing concerns regarding media freedom and pluralism across the EU. Jonathan Day noted that political interference in public broadcasting remains widespread throughout the bloc.
Media freedom and pluralism in the EU in 2025 continued to be plagued by longstanding concerns, finds the Liberties Media Freedom Report 2026. Speaking with FRANCE 24's Mark Owen, Jonathan Day, Senior Advocacy Officer at the Civil Liberties Union for Europe, explains that "media is a tool for politicians or the wealthy to project their views" adding that "political interference in public broadcasting is quite widespread all across the bloc".
