China’s fuerdai, or “second-generation rich”, are shaking off their notorious image and have become the favourite boss of some young people. The term fuerdai was invented in the 2000s and refers to the children of people who accumulated wealth following China’s reform and opening up in 1978. It was considered a pejorative term, often associated with the spoiled character and overindulgent lifestyles of rich children.
