Taiwanese opposition leader Cheng Li-wun blamed Japanese 'imperialist forces' for the separation of Taiwan and mainland China during her tribute to Sun Yat-sen. She stated that Taiwan became a Japanese colony following China's defeat in the First Sino-Japanese War in 1895.
