The Ecuadorian authorities have detained José Patricio Aguas Muñoz, alias 'Cholú', leader of the violent group Los Lobos, in connection with the murder of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio in 2023. Cholú was a protected witness in the investigation but became a fugitive and a key figure in the group's structure. He also had an order of capture for organized crime and narcotrafficking.
