Mexican Official Hires and Fires Himself, Accused of Embezzlement
The municipal government of Apaseo el Alto in Mexico has accused its treasurer, Jaime Aguirre Mejía, of embezzling millions of dollars from the government's treasury. Aguirre Mejía has been absent from work for at least three weeks and is suspected of siphoning off funds from the treasury into his personal bank accounts. The government has filed a denunciation with the state prosecutor's office and plans to request an audit by the state's auditor general.
