The Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) plants in La Paz, Baja California Sur, have been fined for environmental contamination and irregularities in their operations. The Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente (PROFEPA) imposed over 1.2 million pesos in penalties on the Central de Combustión Interna (CCI) and the Central Termoeléctrica de Punta Prieta for failing to demonstrate compliance with maximum contaminant levels. This case is related to the Centro Mexicano de Derecho Ambiental (CEMDA), which revealed a series of alarming irregularities during inspections, including lack of records, omissions in emissions reports, and absence of information to verify real contamination levels.
