New Giant Salamander Species Discovered in 3.5-Million-Year-Old Fossils

Fossils found in Japan over two decades ago have been identified as a new genus and species of giant salamander, Limnospondylus ajimuensis, which lived around 3.5 million years ago. This discovery suggests more unknown giant salamanders might be found among misclassified fossils.
